Burnout is Not A Good Look on You

When was the last time you did something purely for the sake of nourishing your spirits and resetting your mind?

There are many words and phrases in French (and any other language) that don’t readily translate to English. I find this beautiful as its a testament to the difference in cultures and how to relate to the world and perceive differently. Why would we need a word for an idea that’s not understood or embraced by our side of the world? “La Flânerie” is one of my favorite words and way to pass the day, meaning aimless wandering through city streets. Upon hearing this word in a conversation, I was reminded why I fell in love with the French and their Joie de vivre outlook on life. The USA is so fast-paced and get-er-done, especially being in tech. I realized how infrequently I take time to just sit and appreciate a sunset or stroll through the park, activities I absolutely adore doing. Simply sitting at a café in Paris and watching the beautiful gens strut past me drove me slightly stir crazy. I have an itch that can only be scratched by constant connection and the checking of emails. Thank god I took this trip and was finally reminded that it’s important to breathe… Burnout is not sexy and it’s not a good look on you. And after a month of re-training myself to laissez-faire, I hope to bring back from my voyage peace of mind and clarity on what is truly important to me in this lifetime; to live and love well.
